Why We Added Conures

Alongside our established Cockatoo program, we've been expanding into Conures — a large, diverse group of small-to-medium parrots native to Central and South America. Where Cockatoos ask for a big, lifelong commitment, Conures bring a lot of the same intelligence and personality in a smaller, often quieter package, which appeals to a different kind of household.

What Makes Conures Different

Conures are generally smaller than Cockatoos or African Greys, which usually (though not always) means a more modest noise footprint and cage size requirement. That said, several popular species — Sun Conures especially — are still capable of quite piercing calls, so it's worth researching the specific species you're drawn to rather than assuming small means quiet.

Color and Variety

Part of the appeal of Conures is sheer visual variety — from the fiery orange of a Sun Conure to the black-hooded look of a Nanday, to the many color mutations bred within species like the Green-Cheeked Conure. If a specific bird's coloring looks different from what you'd expect for its species, it's likely a color mutation rather than a different species entirely — ask us for specifics on any bird that catches your eye.

Is a Conure Right for You?
