Why We Added African Greys
Alongside our established Cockatoo and Conure programs, we've been expanding into African Grey Parrots (Psittacus erithacus) — widely regarded as one of the most cognitively capable companion parrot species, known for problem-solving, vocal mimicry, and close bonding with attentive owners.

Is an African Grey a Parrot?
Yes — the African Grey belongs to the parrot order Psittaciformes, and is one of the most studied companion parrot species for its intelligence. Two forms are recognized: the larger, lighter Congo African Grey with a bright red tail, and the smaller, darker Timneh African Grey with a maroon tail.
What Makes African Greys Different
African Greys are prized above all for their intelligence and, in many individuals, an extensive vocabulary used contextually. That same intelligence means they need consistent daily enrichment and routine — an under-stimulated African Grey is more prone to stress behaviors like feather plucking than a well-engaged one.
Is an African Grey Right for You?

Any companion parrot can carry disease if it isn't properly screened, which is why every bird placed through our aviary is tested prior to going to a new home, with screening that covers PBFD (Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease), Polyomavirus, Psittacosis, Avian Borna Virus. Ask us for the documentation available for any specific bird.
Requirements vary by country, state, and sometimes city, and can change over time. We're not able to give legal advice, so please confirm current requirements with your local wildlife or agriculture agency before purchasing.
Avocado, chocolate, caffeine, and alcohol are unsafe for African Greys, as with most companion parrots, and should never be offered.
